Miraz's Historic All-Round Show Seals Chattogram Test for Bangladesh
Despite taking 10 wickets in the Sylhet Test, Mehidy Hasan Miraz ended up on the losing side due to Bangladesh's batting failure. But in the Chattogram Test, he turned the tables single-handedly. With a brilliant century and five wickets, Miraz guided Bangladesh to an innings and 106-run victory over Zimbabwe, leveling the two-match series 1-1.
This win ended Bangladesh’s streak of six consecutive Test losses at home, offering much-needed relief for the Tigers.
Miraz Turns the Match Around with Bat and Ball
Replying to Zimbabwe’s first innings score of 227, Bangladesh posted a commanding 444, thanks to Miraz’s gritty 104. On the second day, the hosts were struggling at 279/7. But Miraz built crucial partnerships with Taijul Islam (20), Tanzim Hasan Sakib (41), and Hasan Mahmud to guide the team to a strong total.
Then with the ball, Miraz was again the hero, taking 5 wickets for just 32 runs in 21 overs. Taijul Islam, who had claimed 6 wickets in the first innings, added 4 more in the second. Zimbabwe collapsed for only 111 runs in their second innings.
Miraz’s Record-Breaking Feats

- Second Bangladeshi to achieve the double of 2,000 Test runs and 200 wickets
- Seventh player in Test history to take 10 wickets in a match and score a century in the same series

Miraz’s Reaction After the Match
Speaking to the media, Miraz said, “It feels really good. Since we lost the first match, we had to win this one. Everyone in the team was committed. We played as a unit. Taijul supported me well, and Tanzim and Hasan showed great spirit to help me reach my century. When we play united, we can be a strong team.”
Captain Shanto’s Honest Reflection
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, despite the massive win, expressed regret over the first match. “To be honest, I’m not very happy if you look at the whole series. We should have won the series. We didn’t play well in the first match,” he said.
